Following the recent assassination attempt on former U.S. President Donald Trump, Political Analyst and Acting Director of the Center for Security, Peace and Conflict Resolution at Nelson Mandela University, Professor Ntsikelelo Breakfast, weighed in on the potential implications for Trump’s political future.

“This should never have happened,” Breakfast stated, stressing that political violence undermines democracy. He expressed concerns that proponents of democracy would not support such acts, as free and fair elections should be free from threats to human security.

Breakfast called for a thorough investigation by the FBI to uncover the motives behind the attack, noting, “That report will really help us to have a contextual understanding.” He suggested that the incident may lead to an impression of Trump as a victim, which could complicate the Democrats’ chances in the upcoming elections.

Meanwhile, European leaders have condemned the assassination attempt and expressed alarm over the increasing political violence, following recent attacks on two European leaders in the past two months. The global reaction underscores growing concerns over the state of political discourse and safety worldwide.
