Namibia Institute for Democracy hosts civic dialogue in Otjiwarongo

today31 July, 2024

Background

To strengthen civic engagement and democratic participation, the Namibia Institute for Democracy concluded a community dialogue in Otjiwarongo on Tuesday. The event sought to bridge the gap between citizens and their local representatives, promoting a deeper understanding of democratic processes and governance—the NID’s Executive Director Naita Hishoono.

The Namibia Institute for Democracy was founded in 1991 with the belief that sharing information and knowledge could enhance Namibia’s democratic landscape. Under Section 21 of the Companies Act of 2008, the NID focuses on community development, civic education, socio-politics, voter education, gender mainstreaming, anti-corruption efforts, political leadership training, and research. Committed to upholding the Constitution of the Republic of Namibia, the NID empowers decision-makers, political party representatives, civil society organizations, law enforcement agencies, and traditional authorities to safeguard the Constitution and human rights agreements endorsed by Namibia. As a member of the Access to Information Coalition (ACTION) and a founding member of the Civil Society Information Centre Namibia (CIVIC +264), the NID has, over its 32 years, established enduring partnerships with various development stakeholders, promoting effective collaboration and sustainability.
