Sudan denied the existence of famine in North Darfur’s Zamzam camp for internally displaced people on Sunday according to Reuters reports. However, an aid group warned of a severe shortage of special food needed to treat malnourished children in the camp. On Thursday, a global food monitor reported that famine, confirmed by meeting criteria for acute malnutrition and mortality, was present in the camp and likely to persist until at least October.
