In celebration of Heroes Day, over 30 Capricorn Group employees, in their role as Changemakers, hosted an event to honour project leaders and volunteers from various projects, centres, and organisations. This heartwarming gesture acknowledged the remarkable contributions of local charity leaders, as community heroes, that work tirelessly to address ongoing community needs through selfless acts.

The event occurred on Friday, 23 August, with over 40 community heroes from 30 different community initiatives and charitable organisations in attendance. The day was dedicated to recognising and commending the efforts of these unsung heroes—caregivers, employees, and volunteers—who consistently go above and beyond, often without incentives, to support vulnerable youth, children, the elderly, abandoned animals, and more. They aim to transform lives and create a lasting, positive impact.

The celebration highlighted the strong collaboration between Capricorn Group and the communities it serves. The event featured various engaging activities, including a mini skills-building workshop where Changemakers shared their expertise in financial management, project management, and social media marketing. The honoured heroes also enjoyed group games, meals, and beverages, with moments of relaxation provided by manicure and pampering stations and a summer-smart smoothie-making session. The day culminated in a special awards ceremony celebrating outstanding achievements in community service. The atmosphere was filled with gratitude and camaraderie, offering a platform for Changemakers and community heroes to connect on a deeper level.

“As we commemorate the pivotal contributions of those who laid the foundation for our nation, we also wish to recognize the significant impact of our community heroes who continue to drive societal progress. We are committed to fostering the strength of our community through collaboration, and this initiative is a testament to our dedication to promoting kindness and positive change,” said Marlize Horn, Group Executive of Brand & Corporate Affairs and Executive Officer of Capricorn Foundation.

“I connected with many people from other organisations. It was indeed good to be taken care of, and we will continue to support our communities in the best way that we can.” Tomas Shilongo from Men on the Side of the Road (MSR).

“I have learnt quite a lot, and I will put it all into action in future.” Rina Schwartz, Caretaker at Eastern Court Old Age Home in Klein Windhoek.

The Group encouraged more companies to continue supporting the noble initiatives of organisations across the country, enabling them to meet the needs of communities on the ground.
