South African Union Cosatu Welcomes Tabling of Mine Health and Safety Amendment Bill

South African Union, Cosatu, has welcomed Mineral and Petroleum Resources minister Gwede Mantashe’s announcement of government’s intention to table the long-delayed Mine Health and Safety Amendment Bill at Parliament. Cosatu’s Matthew Parks says key provisions in the bill seek to improve the safety of mineworkers, and ensure all employers are held accountable for fulfilling their obligations to provide a safe work environment. He says the federation and NUM have participated extensively in the drafting of this progressive Bill at the National Economic Development and Labour Council:
