In an essential step towards hosting the African Union Sport Council (AUSC) Region 5 Youth Games, the Minister of Sport, Youth, and National Service, Agnes Tjongarero, appointed a Local Organising Committee (LOC) comprising seventeen (17) members to oversee the preparation and execution of the youth games.
Their term officially began on November 1, 2024, and will run until October 31, 2025, in alignment with Cabinet Decision No. 20th/12.11.24/007.
The Games will be hosted in June 2025, bringing together young athletes from Angola, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe to celebrate sportsmanship and unity.
The Committee’s responsibilities will include managing logistics, coordinating events, and ensuring that all aspects of the Games run smoothly.
This critical role highlights the nation’s commitment to delivering a successful and memorable event that reflects the spirit of the AUSC Region 5’s mission.
The AUSC Region 5 is a regional sports governing body under the African Union Sports Council, established to promote sports development and unity across Southern Africa.
The Youth Games are hosted biennially, serving as a platform for young athletes to compete at a high level while fostering regional integration and cultural exchange.
As Namibia prepares to host this prestigious event, the appointment of the LOC marks a significant milestone in ensuring the country is ready to welcome athletes, coaches, and officials from across the region.
