Liberty Life Namibia and Cancer Association of Namibia are collaborating during the month of November on the “Movember Men’s Health Clinic” campaign.

Liberty Life is celebrating 20 years of operations in Namibia this November, and, aligned with the organisation’s purpose of making a difference in people’s lives, Liberty Life Namibia wants to give back to the community by partnering with CAN, to offer men’s health screenings this month. The health screenings will take place at CAN and will be available to 20 men per week, by appointment only.

Sr Aina Nghitongo – CAN; Prostate cancer is a significant health concern in Namibia as in many parts of the world and incidence has been on the rise with advanced cases. There is a low turnout for prostate cancer screening with several contributing factors such as poor awareness and importance of screening of men, risk factors associated with the disease and the benefits of early detection. Tareekuje Tjiriange – Cancer Registrar: at least 356 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer annually. However, with the rise in numbers of men being screened, prostate
cancer has now officially become the leading cancer per 100 000 by age group with 49.7 compared to breast cancer with 46.3 the 2019 data shows. Mouth, pharynx and colorectal cancer are among the top 3 cancers diagnosed in men annually.

Monique Cloete, Liberty Life’s Managing Director, had the following to say: “At Liberty Life, we’re committed not only to making a difference in people’s lives financially, but holistically. It is in-line with this purpose that we have decided to collaborate with CAN, to contribute towards providing men’s health screenings, with the hope of making an impact in the lives of people in our community, and to create awareness around men’s health issues.” The screenings will be available on Friday, the 3rd of November, and then every Tuesday in November thereafter (the 7th, the 14th, the 21st and the 28th).
