Speaking at the 2025 Southern African Liberation Movements Summit in Kempton Park, Swapo President Netumbo Nandi‑Ndaitwah issued a rallying call for past liberation movements to remain united and vigilant in safeguarding their historic gains and national independence. She urged continuous activism and international coalition-building to preserve the legacy of Southern Africa’s liberation struggle.

From Mozambique, former President Joaquim Chissano expressed concern that many liberation parties have drifted from their founding commitment to serve the people. He called for renewed focus on democracy, youth, women’s representation, and inclusive governance.

Meanwhile, ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa warned of a growing external offensive against transformation, progressive policies, and multilateral institutions. He denounced what he described as a “re-weaponisation” of global systems aimed at dividing Africa and undermining sovereignty, urging liberation movements to lead the continent toward economic justice and regional unity.

Dr. Marius Kudumo, a public policy analyst, underlined the urgency of these messages, stressing that liberation movements must reconnect with citizens and resist external interference to retain legitimacy and relevance.
