SA’s Numsa engages authorities to find buyers for shuttered Goodyear plant

The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) is in talks with the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition to identify strategic partners to take over the Goodyear South Africa plant in the Eastern Cape.

The tyre manufacturing facility in Kariega closed its doors last Friday, resulting in more than 900 job losses and raising concerns about the economic impact on the local community. Numsa’s spokesperson, Phakamile Hlubi-Majola, said the union is seeking solutions to secure the plant’s future and preserve jobs.
