Ohangwena governor, Kadiva Hamutumwa, has emphasised the importance of treating people with disabilities with respect and dignity.

Speaking at the recent Northern Disability Information Sharing Seminar in Ongenga village, she expressed disappointment over the absence or tardiness of some regional officials, stressing that such behavior is disrespectful and unacceptable.

Hamutumwa reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving food security and support for persons with disabilities, highlighting increased funding for programs that integrate disability issues into socio-economic development.

The seminar brought together people with disabilities and stakeholders to discuss disability inclusion in national development efforts.

Helao Nafidi mayor, Darius Shaalukeni, announced that the council has passed a resolution to allocate at least five residential plots to persons with disabilities residing within its jurisdiction whenever land becomes available.

Shaalukeni added the initiative is a positive step towards promoting the rights and wellbeing of persons with disabilities, and by providing access to residential plots, the council can help ensure that persons with disabilities have equal opportunities to participate in society and live independently.
