Canal Plus takes control of MultiChoice

Background

French media company Canal Plus has taken control of South Africa’s MultiChoice, creating a media group that will operate in nearly 70 countries.

The companies announced in a joint statement that the combined group will employ 17,000 people and serve more than 40 million subscribers.

Canal Plus said the deal strengthens its market presence across Africa, Europe, and Asia.
