The City of Windhoek customer care centre in Katutura was cleaned on Monday morning after residents from Katutura’s Nama 10, led by activist Shaun Gariseb, dumped buckets of sewage at the main entrance in protest.
The group of people from eight households representing about 20 people collected sewage that had been overflowing from a nearby riverbed into their homes and deposited it at the entrance of the office.
Community activist Shaun Gariseb, who led the protest, urged the City of Windhoek to urgently address the crisis affecting households.
Gariseb said residents have written numerous letters to the city’s solid waste management, the municipal council and the Katutura central councillor but fell on deaf ear, hence taking this decision.
Gariseb said residents have written numerous letters to the City’s Solid Waste Management department, the municipal council, and the Katutura Central councillor, but their complaints have been ignored, prompting them to take action.
