Kavango East Regional Council on Monday handed over streetlights worth N$1.1 million at Ndiyona Settlement in Kavango East Region.

The streetlights, which incorporate energy-efficient LED technology, were erected along B8 trunk road and funded by the Kavango East Regional Council.

Speaking at the official handover, urban and Rural Development minister advisor, Boniface Mutumba, said the project aligns with the country’s goals for rural electrification and infrastructure development.

Mutumba said the installation reaffirms the government’s commitment to improve living conditions across all regions.

“These streetlights are not just fixtures, they are beacons of progress stating that by illuminating Ndiyona and the B8 road, we are improving safety, stimulating economic activities, and enhancing the quality of life for our people,” said Mutumba.

The community expressed gratitude for the improved lighting, citing enhanced security, and increased confidence in moving around at night.

In addition, local business owners hope the project will boost economic activity and community interaction.
