Taxi driver fatally shoots man after alleged attack

A 50-year-old taxi driver shot and killed a man on Saturday evening, during an attack where the car windscreen was smashed and he was attacked in Windhoek’s Okahandja Park informal settlement.

The driver drew a firearm and shot at the deceased, identified as Innocent Shawn, who was declared dead upon arrival at Katutura State Hospital.

According to police reports, the driver had picked up a customer in town for a trip to Okuryangava. It is alleged that the customer directed the driver toward Okahandja Park, where the taxi was suddenly attacked by more than five men, including the passenger.

The attackers reportedly smashed the taxi’s right front window and assaulted the driver. During the assault, the taxi driver allegedly drew his pistol and shot the deceased.

Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
