Israel recovers remains of final deceased hostage in Gaza

The Israeli military has recovered the remains of Ran Gvili, the final deceased Israeli hostage held in Gaza.

Gvili, an Israeli police officer, was killed while fighting Hamas-led militants during the 7 October 2023 attacks. His body was taken to Gaza and later used as leverage in negotiations.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has described Gvili’s return as an extraordinary achievement, calling him a hero.

His office says the recovery could help advance ceasefire arrangements, including the reopening of the Rafah crossing between Gaza and Egypt, once the search related to the final hostage is completed.
