A one-month-old baby was found abandoned on Wednesday afternoon at the intersection of Sean McBride and Tennis streets in Windhoek’s Olympia after robbers made off with a vehicle.

After fleeing with the car, the robbers realised there was an infant inside and abandoned the baby at the intersection.

According to a source, a married couple were parked and eating in Olympia when they were ambushed by two suspects armed with a panga and knives.

During the attack, the husband sustained three stab wounds. The suspects then fled the scene in the couple’s white Mazda Demio, taking the couple’s one-month-old baby with them.

The baby was later found abandoned in a baby carrier basket in Olympia near an area commonly used by driving schools.

The baby’s condition has not been disclosed following the incident.

The stolen vehicle was later recovered at around 13h00 on Hippocrates Street in Windhoek West intact.

A member of the public alerted the police at approximately 17h48 after discovering the vehicle.

The suspects are believed to have fled into nearby bushes and have not yet been apprehended. Police investigations are ongoing.

Efforts to obtain comment from Namibian Police Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi were unsuccessful, as her phone went unanswered.
