Grandmother dies after attack by grandson

A 72-year-old senior citizen from Mazana Village in the Kavango East Region died weeks after she was allegedly attacked by her grandson with a hoe.

The deceased, identified as Sofia Kasekere Mbwetetelori, was reportedly assaulted on 21 February this week, at around 21h00 at her home.

According to Kavango East Police Crime Investigation Coordinator Deputy Commissioner, Bonifatius Kanyetu, the suspect, Hausiku Nicodemus (26), allegedly hacked his grandmother, leaving her with multiple serious injuries, including wounds to her left shoulder, neck, left ear, and head.

Mbwetetelori was rushed to Rundu State Hospital, where she was admitted to the surgical ward and had been receiving treatment.

However, despite efforts by medical staff, she succumbed to her injuries on Sunday.

Police have since upgraded the case from attempted murder to murder.
