Namibia

Schools to operate normally says education ministry

today19 March, 2026

Background

By: Ritta Lotto

The education ministry has issued a media release clarifying that schools across the country will open as usual on Friday.

This follows the Teachers’ Union of Namibia’s announcement of a planned Economic National Action Day on Friday, which sparked inquiries if the day is a public holiday.

The ministry says the day does not coincide with any official long weekend, and no directive has been given to suspend teaching and learning.

Principals are instructed to ensure all staff are at their duty stations and attendance is recorded.

The ministry emphasises its commitment to protecting the right to education and avoiding disruptions to the academic programme.

Parents and guardians are urged to ensure learners attend school as scheduled.

Any further updates will be shared through official ministry channels.
