Man accused killing partner pleads guilty

A 41-year-old -year old man accused of killing his girlfriend Martha Aron (35) at Oshifukwa in Oshikoto Region two years ago has pleaded guilty during his court appearance on Thursday in Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court.

The accused Eliakim Taapopi Shiimi, submitted a formal statement admitting to the murder.

In his signed confession, Shiimi admitted that he intentionally, wrongfully, and unlawfully killed Aron, admitting guilty without making any excuses for his actions. The accused said he did not want to waste the court’s time any further with lengthy trial proceedings.

Shiimi revealed he stabbed Aron multiple times with a knife.

He apologised to the family, public, and to court for what he did and asked for forgiveness.

“I recognise that my actions were wrong, and I hereby express my unreserved remorse… I sincerely regret my conduct,” stated Shiimi.

He further asked the court to show mercy and leniency when imposing sentencing.

His next court appearance was postponed to 24 June for the Prosecutor’s General decision. Shiimi has been in police custody since the day of the incident.
