Alibaba says its new AI model surpasses DeepSeek

  Chinese tech giant Alibaba has released a new version of its Qwen 2.5 artificial intelligence model which its claims surpasses DeepSeek's technology. Fatalities confirmed in Washington plane-helicopter crash

US authorities have confirmed there are fatalities after a commercial plane and military helicopter crashed at Ronald Reagan airport just out of Washington DC. At this stage the number of deaths is not known. A major search and rescue operation is underway, as teams search the Potomac River next to the airport where both aircraft crashed. Nick Harper reports from Washington.

  United Nations humanitarian agencies are warning of a region-wide health emergency following the outbreak of fighting in the city of Goma in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. While UN agencies report "relative calm" on Wednesday, they say rebel M23 fighters are still in control of "a significant portion of the city".
