A five per cent increase in road accidents and two per cent increase in road-related injuries were recorded between 07 November 2023 and 01 January 2024, Namibian Police Force Inspector-General, Lieutenant-General Joseph Shikongo, has said. Shikongo was speaking at the Oshiko roadblock in Ongwediva on Thursday, comparing road crash statistics for 2023/24 with that of the same period in 2022/23. Two separate incidents of fatal stabbing were reported in the Omusati Region yesterday, as confirmed by Inspector Anna Kunga, Community Affairs Officer of the Namibian Police Force. In the first incident, Shiimi Onesmus, a 40-year-old resident of Akaonde village in the Onesi Constituency, was allegedly fatally stabbed at the Okapanda shebeen.
