South Africa increases renewable energy capacity

South Africa currently has over 7,000 megawatts of renewable energy connected to the grid, with an additional 20 gigawatts planned for future development, according to Jacob Mbele, the director-general of Mineral Resources and Energy. SA is leading sub-Saharan Africa with nearly 40% of the region's new capacity. Mbele said it is important to continue exploring, developing, and producing the country's natural resources.

Germany’s four-day work week pilot shows success

A pilot project of the four-day workweek in Germany has found that almost three-quarters of participants aren’t returning to a five-day standard. Bloomberg reports that some 73% of the 45 companies that participated in the six-month experiment will either fully implement the model or extend the trial, according to a report released Friday.

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has condemned the killing of Elvino Dias, an opposition lawyer, and Paulo Guambe, a senior official from the Podemos party, who were shot and killed by gunmen in their car in Maputo, Mozambique. Guterres urged all Mozambicans to reject violence as the country awaits the official announcement of electoral results.
