18 Civilians killed in DRC violence

At least 18 civilians have been killed by armed bandits in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo since the start of October. A civil society organization that has been documenting the deaths has condemned the frequent killings of unarmed people in the territory of Nyiragongo. Chris Ocamringa reports from Kinshasa.

Malawian Opposition Leader Faces Charges of Plotting to Assassinate President Chakwera

  Patricia Kaliati, Secretary-General of Malawi’s opposition UTM party, has been charged with conspiring to assassinate President Lazarus Chakwera. BBC Africa says, arrested last week, Kaliati appeared in court on Monday in Lilongwe, where she remained silent as her lawyer asserted her innocence. Few specifics of the alleged plot have been disclosed, while opposition members argue the charges may be politically motivated.
