SA’s government denies Chinese pressure on Taiwan office relocation in Pretoria

South Africa’s Department of International Relations and Cooperation has denied claims that the government has been pressured by China to order the relocation of Taiwan’s office from Pretoria to Johannesburg. Taiwan’s Foreign minister, Lin Chia-lung, has accused South Africa of violating a 1997 agreement between the two countries. Dirco’s spokesperson, Chrispin Phiri, spoke to Newzroom Afrika.

RSF Attacks in Sudan’s El Gezira State Leave 25 Dead Following Officer Defection

Paramilitary Rapid Support Forces launched attacks on villages in Sudan's El Gezira state, according to Reuters reports, resulting in at least 25 fatalities. The violence followed the defection of high-ranking RSF officer Abuagla Keikal, who hails from the region. Since December, Keikal's local forces had managed to prevent incursions by other RSF divisions into eastern Gezira, protecting civilians from the worst of the violence while maintaining control over the area.
