The IPC has argued that President Mbumba lacked legal authority to extend the 2024 voting period, citing contradictions in his proclamation and improper election conduct, as extended voting was only allowed at specific polling stations. The IPC, co-signed by lawyer Anton Katz, disputes Mbumba’s claim that he intended to extend voting nationwide but was advised against it. IPC spokesperson Imms Nashinge confirmed the matter is sub judice, preventing further comment.
The Electoral Commission has clarified that no new voters were allowed to vote on November 28, 2024, during the extended election period.
