Swapo and IPC manifestos reveal big budget plans

The Swapo Party's manifesto. Launched on Saturday, promises to spend over N$85 billion to create jobs for unemployed Namibians over the next five years if they win the election. The Independent Patriots for Change also released a manifesto at the weekend, which includes a N$100 billion budget for national development if the party is elected into power. Trans Namib’s hydrogen-powered train expected by April 2025

TransNamib has temporarily suspended a project to convert two locomotives to run on hydrogen and diesel using locally produced green hydrogen. This follows the approval of a N$2.6 billion loan from the Development Bank of Namibia and the Development Bank of Southern Africa to help modernise its fleet. Drought lowers Fish River Canyon water levels

Namibia Wildlife Resorts will conduct a clean-up at the Fish River Canyon this weekend to mark the end of the hiking season. NWR spokesperson Nelson Ashipala said that drought conditions have lowered water levels, pushing the Ministry of Environment to deploy water marshals to maintain a steady supply.

MVA Fund records youth account for 55% of road accident injuries

The Motor Vehicle Accident Fund has revealed that young people aged 18 to 35 were disproportionately affected by motor vehicle accidents, constituting 55% of total injuries recorded during the first nine months of 2024. Food and housing drive inflation

The annual inflation rate was 4.4% in August, down from 4.7% in August 2023. Monthly inflation increased to 0.3% from 0.2% in the previous month. Key contributors to inflation were food and non-alcoholic beverages and housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels, each contributing 1%.
