South Africa’s Border Management Authority expects over six million border crossings this festive season. Commissioner Michael Masiapato said they plan to combat cross-border crime and illegal immigration while warning about potential gender-based violence at borders. Masiapato says Home Affairs has also extended operating hours at select ports to ease congestion.

SA’s Ramaphosa responds to Donald Trump’s threats

South Africa’s President, Cyril Ramaphosa says the country will facilitate diplomatic talks with US president-elect Donald Trump, rather than engage in social media clashes over bilateral matters. This comes after Trump threatened to impose 100 percent tariffs on BRICS countries if they were to create a currency rival to the US dollar. SA Hawks confirm fatal Emalahleni shootout

Five alleged ATM bombers were fatally shot by police in Emalahleni, Mpumalanga, earlier today, with one other suspect sustaining injuries. Police spokesperson Katlego Mogale reported that a multi-disciplinary team was strategically stationed in Schoongezicht to monitor a white Toyota Hilux. When the targeted vehicle was seen leaving the area and officers attempted to intercept it, the suspects opened fire, resulting in a shootout.
