U.S President Joseph Biden has championed the Nato alliance and promised more air defenses for Ukraine at the opening of the annual summit. He was speaking in Washington DC at the start of the three-day gathering. It's the 75th anniversary of the alliance, with support for Ukraine topping the agenda. Australian prime minister Anthony Albanese has appointed a special envoy to monitor and combat anti-Semitism. Community groups have documented a steep increase in both anti-Semitism and Islamophobia since the Hamas attacks on Israel on the seventh of October last year, and the Israeli military bombardment of Gaza. Albanese says lawyer Jillian Segal will consult with community leaders and discrimination experts to advise the government:
