China’s Xi to send top-level envoy to Trump’s inauguration

  Chinese President Xi Jinping will send a high-level envoy in his place to US President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration, according to the Financial Times newspaper. Trump had extended the invitation to Xi, but experts said it would have been unprecedented for a leader of China to attend a US presidential inauguration and called it political theater. The UN's refugee agency U.N.H.C.R says many people have arrived back in Syria following last month's fall of the Assad regime. LA fires: 0% contained in unprecedented disaster

  Fire officials in Los Angeles say they still have no part of the 27,000 acre wildfires under control. More than 2000 properties and buildings have been destroyed and around 180,000 people have been told to evacuate. The city's mayor says high winds and droughts have created the "perfect storm".
