Activists Call for Urgent Delivery in Windhoek Settlements

Social activist Shaun Gariseb says residents of Windhoek’s informal settlements are fed up with decades of unfulfilled promises from successive councils. He highlighted that areas like Tobias Hainyeko and Brendan Simbwame still lack basic services, including toilets, electricity, water, and police presence, despite a N$700 million budget for formalization. Activists plan to attend the upcoming community meeting to push authorities for real action.

Hong Kong court sentences 45 activists

  A Hong Kong court sentenced 45 former politicians and activists in a mass trial that has decimated the city’s once vibrant pro-democracy opposition. Three judges sentenced 45 pro-democracy activists to jail terms of up to 10 years in the largest national security trial. Laura Westbrook is there.

Tanzania faces media crackdown ahead of November elections

Tanzania has seen an increase in disappearances and media crackdowns since June, leading up to local elections on November 27. Human Rights Watch has expressed concerns about increasing restrictions on media, extrajudicial killings of political activists, and arbitrary arrests. The organisation is calling on President Samia Suluhu Hassan to address these issues before the elections, where Tanzanians will vote for local government representatives.

Russian exiled media raises funds for political prisoners

        Russian exiled media and activists held a telethon on Wednesday in support of the growing number of political prisoners in the country, raising tens of thousands of euros for those behind bars.
