Farm Attacks: S.A’s AfriForum Reports 49 Murders in 2023

AfriForum’s annual report on farm attacks and murders shows 49 farm murders in 296 attacks during 2023. Chief spokesperson for Community Safety, Jacques Broodryk, says this is approximately one murder per week. Broodryk has criticised the government and the SAPS for its double standards in preventing and investigating such crimes. He urges the government to form a special ministerial task team to address farm murders:

S.A's AfriForum's legal team has urged president Cyril Ramaphosa to reconsider the Expropriation Bill's constitutionality by sending it back to Parliament. This follows its approval by the National Council of Provinces. AfriForum's head of Public Relations, Ernst van Zyl, emphasises the need to prevent government from having unchecked power over property. SA's AfriForum says it is concerned about the group of learners who never even participate in matric examinations. According to statistics of the Department of Basic Education’s report, one-million-208-thousand-and-973 learners found themselves in grade one of so-called ordinary schools in 2011.
