Sudanese Army Breaks RSF Siege on Key Southern City

The Sudanese army claims to have broken a nearly two-year siege by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces on el-Obeid, a key southern state capital. BBC Africa has it that this development follows the RSF’s signing of a political charter in Nairobi to establish a breakaway government in its controlled areas. The conflict, ongoing since April 2023, has killed tens of thousands and displaced millions.

Sudan’s RSF Attacks Kill Over 200 Amid Political Deadlock

More than 200 people have been killed in Sudan over the past three days in attacks by the Rapid Support Forces, activists reported to Reuters. The paramilitary group has delayed signing a political charter that could lead to a breakaway government. While the RSF controls much of western Sudan and parts of Khartoum, it has been losing ground in central Sudan to the army.
