Namibia Pushes Water Security at AU Summit

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform, represented by Minister Inge Zaamwani, took part in the AU-AIP Water Investment Summit to tackle Africa’s $30 billion annual water investment gap. Ministry spokesperson Simon Nghipandulwa highlighted that water security remains a strategic priority, with N$4.8 billion allocated in the 2025/26 budget and support from partners such as the African Development Bank and KfW.

Environmental Investment Fund Accredited to Lead Climate Action.

    The Environmental Investment Fund has received accreditation from the Adaptation Fund as a National Implementing Entity, granting it direct access to N$370 million in climate financing. Chief Executive Officer Benedict Libanda described the recognition as a significant step toward strengthening the nation’s climate resilience. Spokesperson Romeo Muyunda affirmed the institution’s preparedness to begin implementing key projects, including climate-smart agricultural initiatives.

EU and UNICEF Boost Drought Aid to Hard-Hit Areas

The European Union has committed €911,000 (approximately N$19 million) to support emergency drought response through UNICEF, which is also contributing an extra €228,000 (about N$5 million) from its own resources.
