Blinken Urges Action to Address Sudan Conflict

  U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken delivered a direct appeal to nations aiding Sudan's warring factions or benefiting from the conflict. Reuters says that he called on them to shift their focus toward alleviating Sudanese suffering and using their influence to bring the war to an end. Addressing the United Nations Security Council, Blinken emphasized the need for concrete action to demonstrate genuine concern for Sudan's future.

South African government continues to mediate peace in the Democratic Republic of Congo

  The South African government continues its efforts to mediate peace in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Sudan. Addressing the media, International Relations and Cooperation minister, Ronald Lamola, said government supports ongoing negotiations and diplomatic solutions to resolve the conflict in the DRC. According to Lamola, government is also working with global partners to address the humanitarian crisis and help bring lasting peace to Sudan:

UN Considers Resolution Urging Ceasefire and Aid Access in Sudan

  The UN Security Council is reviewing a British-drafted resolution urging Sudan’s rival factions to end hostilities and permit safe, unrestricted aid deliveries across borders and conflict zones as per Reuters. Conflict broke out in April 2023, stemming from a power struggle between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces, leading to a severe displacement crisis worldwide.

DRC and Rwanda officials to meet in Luanda

Government and military officials from the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda are set to meet in the Angolan capital of Luanda to hash out an agreement that seeks to end the M23 conflict in the east of the DRC. The agreement known as the Luanda Process seeks to end a conflict that has claimed thousands of lives and displaced over 2 million people since 2021.

DRC and Rwanda to implement M23 ceasefire plan

The Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda have agreed to implement activities aimed at ending an armed conflict led by the M23 rebels in the east of the DRC. The foreign ministers of both countries met in the Angolan capital of Luanda and agreed to end the conflict which started in 2021. Chris Ocamringa has more from Kinshasa.
