Telecom and ICT Sectors Grow According to CRAN

Telecom and ICT sectors grew July–September, with SIM cards up 3%, mobile broadband 6%, and dongle/router subscriptions surging 30%. Communications Regulatory Authority Steps Up to Close Digital Divide in Rural Areas.

Rural and underserved communities face limited access to technology and digital resources. Ms. Hilma Ingo, Officer for Consumer Relations and Advocacy at the Communications Regulatory Authority, highlighted that digital literacy depends on functional internet services and devices. To address this, the Communications Regulatory Authority donated eight computers and improved internet speeds to 50 Mbps at !Gochas and Koës Libraries, supporting enhanced connectivity and digital learning.

CRAN calls for action to ensure digital safety for youth

The Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia has called for unified efforts to ensure a safer digital environment for the youth. The Manager for Consumer Relations and Advocacy at CRAN, Hilya Mhani, highlighted several risks that children may face online, including exposure to inappropriate content, cyberbullying, and online predators.     She emphasized the importance of being vigilant about these dangers while still allowing young people to benefit from digital technologies.
