UN Chief Urges Immediate Halt to Assault on Sudan’s al-Fashir by RSF

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is "gravely alarmed" by reports of a large-scale attack on the Sudanese city of al-Fashir by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces says Reuters. A U.N. spokesperson stated on Saturday that Guterres has called on the RSF leader to immediately stop the assault. The Secretary-General warned that any further escalation could spread the conflict across Sudan's western Darfur region

The United Nations Security Council, as reported by Reuters, has demanded an immediate cessation of the siege on al-Fashir, a city in Sudan's North Darfur region home to 1.8 million people. Adopting a resolution drafted by Britain, the Council also calls for the withdrawal of paramilitary Rapid Support Forces and other fighters posing threats to civilian safety.
