Windhoek Launches International Fire Safety Week

The City of Windhoek has launched International Fire Safety Week under the theme “Unite to Ignite for a Secure Nation.” Mayor Ndeshihafela Larandja noted that the Fire Brigade has responded to over 2,000 fire incidents this year, nearly 1,500 of them in informal settlements. Senior Station Officer Phillipus Sikongo highlighted that the campaign, running from 6 to 10 October, aims to raise awareness about fire prevention and community safety.

Search underway after landslide in China’s Yunnan Province

Search and rescue efforts are underway for at least 47 people believed to be buried in a landslide in southwest China’s Yunnan province. More than 500 people have been evacuated from the region, and there are no immediate reports of deaths or injuries. Landslides, often caused by rain or unsafe construction work, are not uncommon in China.
