Five killed in DRC’s South Kivu fighting

At least five people have been killed in clashes between Congolese government forces and fighters of a militia known as Twirwaneho in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The fighting broke out on Friday in South Kivu province and continued over the weekend.

DRC and Rwanda officials to meet in Luanda

Government and military officials from the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda are set to meet in the Angolan capital of Luanda to hash out an agreement that seeks to end the M23 conflict in the east of the DRC. The agreement known as the Luanda Process seeks to end a conflict that has claimed thousands of lives and displaced over 2 million people since 2021.

18 Civilians killed in DRC violence

At least 18 civilians have been killed by armed bandits in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo since the start of October. A civil society organization that has been documenting the deaths has condemned the frequent killings of unarmed people in the territory of Nyiragongo. Chris Ocamringa reports from Kinshasa.

DRC and Rwanda to implement M23 ceasefire plan

The Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda have agreed to implement activities aimed at ending an armed conflict led by the M23 rebels in the east of the DRC. The foreign ministers of both countries met in the Angolan capital of Luanda and agreed to end the conflict which started in 2021. Chris Ocamringa has more from Kinshasa.

Over 200 Passengers Affected as Boat Capsizes in Lake Kivu, DRC

A tragic boat accident occurred on Lake Kivu in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo on Thursday, with a vessel carrying 278 passengers capsizing and sinking. Duetche Welle reports that the South Kivu Governor Jean-Jacques Purusi reported that 78 people have been confirmed dead so far, as quoted by both Reuters and the Associated Press.
