Botswana holds national election

Botswana is holding its national elections today, where the ruling Botswana Democratic Party is hoping to extend its 58-year reign. President Mokgweetsi Masisi is seeking a second and final term. Challenging Masisi are Duma Boko of the main opposition Umbrella for Democratic Change, Dumelang Saleshando of the Botswana Congress Party, and Mephato Reatile from the Botswana Patriotic Front.

Women make up 54% of electorate, ECN

The Electoral Commission of Namibia has released the final voters register for the 2024 national elections, revealing a total of about 1, 449, 000 (1,449,569) registered voters, with women comprising 54% and men 46% of the electorate. ECN spokesperson, De Wet Siluka has more.     With 21,757 voters identified as having disabilities, we asked Siluka about the measures in place to accommodate these citizens.

CRAN urges broadcasters to uphold standards for 2024 election coverage

The Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN) has called on broadcasters to comply with the Broadcasting Code during the 2024 election coverage period, which runs from 26 September to 24 November 2024. ECN concerned over low voter turnout

The Electoral Commission of Namibia has registered 823,761 eligible Namibians since the General Registration of Voters began on 3 June 2024. The highest numbers were recorded in Khomas, Ohangwena, and Omusati regions. ECN spokesperson De Wet Siluka says there was a slight improvement in turnout in early July but expressed concern over the overall low turnout. Namibians will vote in the Presidential and National Assembly elections on 27 November 2024.
