Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has won a fourth straight term in office in an election that was boycotted by the main opposition party. The country's Election Commission said that her Awami League party won more than 50% of the seats in the parliamentary election. A final official declaration from the poll panel is expected soon. Egypt's President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi has won a third six-year term with 89.6% of the vote, defeating three lesser-known candidates, as the runner-up received only 4.5%. The BBC reports that a prominent opposition candidate, Ahmed Tantawy, withdrew months before the election, citing intimidation and violence against his campaign team.

Egypt’s Sisi takes lead as vote count begins

Egypt's electoral body has started counting votes following the conclusion of polling in the presidential elections. According to the BBC, voting began on Sunday and ended on Tuesday, with more than 67 million people registered to vote. Incumbent President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi is seeking a third consecutive term. The official results are set to be announced on 18 December 2023.

Dina Namubes re-elected as mayor of Swakopmund

Dina Namubes of the Independent Patriot for Change and United Democratic Front’s David Am-!gabeb have been re-elected as Swakopmund’s Mayor and Deputy Mayor. According to the Namibia Press Agency, the elections follow the postponement of another election held on 30 November, which resulted in a tie between Namubes and Matthias Henrichsen of the Swakopmund Resident’s Association.
