Firefighters in the Cape Winelands battling multiple fires

Firefighters in the Cape Winelands faced a tough night battling multiple fires. Spokesperson Jo-Anne Otto says the Dunstone and Rooshoek fires near Wellington were contained, while teams at Oaklands diverted flames away from horse stables and plantations. In Witzenberg, successful backburns helped contain key fire lines. Otto confirmed that crews continue mopping up and monitoring hotspots as efforts to control the blazes persist:

A severe drought has disrupted farming, placing over 1.26 million people—40% of the population—at risk of food insecurity. The delayed rainy season and insufficient rainfall have worsened planting conditions. Agriculture Minister Calle Schlettwein has provided an update on the crisis.

More than 10 thousand aid trucks have entered Gaza since ceasefire

The United Nations says it has reached a major milestone in humanitarian aid deliveries into Gaza. Tom Fletcher, the UN's head of humanitarian affairs on Thursday said 10 thousand trucks have entered the enclave since the ceasefire began on 19 January. The Namibia Meteorological Service, in collaboration with the Office of the Prime Minister, has issued a severe weather warning for moderate to widespread thunderstorms expected in parts of the Northern-Central, North-West, Otjozondjupa, and Khomas regions. Flash floods are likely in some areas, and residents are urged to take necessary precautions to ensure their safety. Update On Military helicopter and regional jet mid-air collision in Washington

  Here an update on our 10am news story...A major search and rescue operation is underway in Washington DC after a military helicopter collided in mid-air with a commercial jetliner that was making its final approach to Ronald Reagan National Airport in the center of the city. A total of around 60 people are feared to have been on board the two aircraft. From Washington, Simon Marks reports.
