Despite responses from the Poverty Eradication ministry, the Basic Income Grant Coalition says they will proceed with its nationwide protest on August 26, aimed at addressing youth unemployment and poverty. The organization says its petition handed over in June has not garnered urgent and favorable responses. 21 year-old researcher from BIG, Tjipura Tjipura, asserts that Namibia, rich in resources, is fully capable of feeding its 3 million residents.

The US territory was pummelled with torrential rain and strong winds overnight, causing flooding and fears for the safety of the island's 3.2 million people, 40% of whom live under the poverty line.
