S.A's President ,Cyril Ramaphosa has authorised the deployment of two-thousand-828 members of the South African National Defence Force to assist the police. This is for the prevention and combating of crime, and the maintenance and preservation of law and order during the elections. Ramaphosa’s spokesperson, Vincent Magwenya, says the expenditure for this employment is estimated at over 59-million-rand:

UN Secretary General condemns attack on Rafah

200 people have reportedly been killed following an air strike on Rafah over the weekend. These are the updated figures from the UN's aid agency, UNRWA on Tuesday. The UN Secretary-General has condemned in the strongest terms the attack saying he is heartbroken by the images of the killed and injured. Jody Jacobs reports from the United Nations in New York.

Millions of South Africans will vote today in the country's most important election since 1994. This follows two days of special votes. Each voter will receive three ballot papers - a blue one for the National Assembly, an orange ballot paper for regional to National Assembly, and a pink one for the Provincial Legislature. South Africa’s Metalworkers union plans to picket outside the offices of SA Steel Mills

South Africa's Metalworkers union, Numsa,  will be picketing outside the offices of SA Steel Mills, trading as Alfeco Holdings, in Meyerton, Gauteng today. This comes after the steel producer fired 165 workers for participating in what the Labour Court ruled was a lawful strike. Numsa’s spokesperson, Phakamile Hlubi-Majola, says the company has been attacking workers' constitutional right to strike:
