South Africa Deploys 2,900 Troops to Eastern DRC to Address Decades-long Conflicts

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa authorizes the deployment of 2,900 members of the South African National Defense Force to the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. The move aims to address decades-long conflicts between rival armed groups over land and resources, resulting in significant casualties and displacements. Spokesperson Vincent Magwenya confirms a budget allocation of over two billion rand for this deployment until December 15th.

Widespread Search Underway for Escaped Offender from Mamelodi Regional Hospital

The South African Department of Correctional Services, in collaboration with law enforcement agencies, initiates a large-scale search operation for Clatta Gumbo, an offender who escaped from Mamelodi Regional Hospital in Pretoria. Admitted in August 2018, Gumbo is serving a life sentence for rape, kidnapping, and assault at Baviaanspoort Correctional Centre in Tshwane. The department's spokesperson, Singabakho Nxumalo, confirms the ongoing efforts to locate and apprehend the escaped offender.

India’s Paytm shares slump to record low following downgrade
