RSF Attacks in Sudan’s El Gezira State Leave 25 Dead Following Officer Defection

Paramilitary Rapid Support Forces launched attacks on villages in Sudan's El Gezira state, according to Reuters reports, resulting in at least 25 fatalities. The violence followed the defection of high-ranking RSF officer Abuagla Keikal, who hails from the region. Since December, Keikal's local forces had managed to prevent incursions by other RSF divisions into eastern Gezira, protecting civilians from the worst of the violence while maintaining control over the area.

The tanker overturned around 3:00 PM local time in the Kigoogwa suburb, located on the northern outskirts of the city along the road connecting Kampala to Gulu. Police confirmed that several individuals may have lost their lives, and others sustained injuries in the incident.
