Record-Breaking Matric Results in South Africa

  South Africa's 2024 National Senior Certificate pass rate hit a record 87.3%, up from 82.9% in 2023. The Free State led with a 91% pass rate, followed by KwaZulu-Natal at 89.5% and Gauteng at 85.4%. Minister of Basic Education Siviwe Gwarube highlighted that nearly half of the candidates achieved a bachelor pass.

South Africa classifies foodborne diseases as a national disaster

South Africa’s National Disaster Management Centre has declared a national disaster due to an increase in foodborne illnesses caused by poor food safety practices. Following 890 reported cases of foodborne illnesses, mostly in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal, the declaration mandates a multisectoral relief plan. The country’s Health minister Aaron Motsoaledi.

DA in Gauteng Raises Alarm Over Sexual Offenders in Schools

  In S.A, the DA in Gauteng says learners in the province are alarmingly being exposed to sexual offenders and predators within their school environments. The provincial Department of Education has revealed that out of the 86-thousand-367 employees in public schools, only eight-thousand-782 have been vetted against the National Register for Sexual Offences. The DA’s Michael Waters says among those vetted, nine employees were identified as convicted sexual offenders:

DA Submits 200,000 Signatures Protesting Eskom’s 40% Tariff Hike

To South Africa, where the DA's leader in Gauteng, Solly Msimanga, submitted over 200-thousand signatures to energy regulator NERSA in Pretoria, opposing Eskom's proposed 40-percent electricity tariff hike. Hundreds joined the DA’s protest, demanding affordable and reliable power. Msimanga called for public participation as NERSA opens hearings.
