Tourism Sector Sustains Strong Growth

The Hospitality Association says the tourism industry continues to recover steadily, with third-quarter room and bed occupancy exceeding both 2024 and pre-pandemic figures. Room occupancy rose by 2% compared to last year and nearly 1% higher than in 2019, while September recorded a 4% rise to just over 66%. Gitta Paetzold, the Hospitality Association CEO:

Central Region Sees Sharp Drop in Hotel Occupancy..

The central region’s occupancy rate dropped to 37.52% in May, down from 44.41% in April, according to economist Almandro Jansen from Simonis Storm. The decline is likely linked to a decrease in corporate or event-related travel. Hospitality Association CEO Gitta Paetzold notes that while coastal occupancy also dipped to 54.43%, the area remains popular with both leisure and business visitors.

October occupancy rate drops to 65.15%

The national occupancy rate for October stood at national occupancy rate for October stood at 65.15%, slightly lower than the 65.54% recorded in October 2023 and below the pre-pandemic level of 69.87% from October 2019.  The year-to-date occupancy rate for 2024 averaged 54.17%, falling just short of the 54.76% seen in 2019.   The tourism sector is showing promising signs of growth, with international arrivals at nationwide airports reaching 71,584 passengers from January to February 2024. This marks an increase from the 57,921 passengers recorded during the same period in 2023. Namibia’s Visitor Arrivals Surge in February

Official figures reveal a notable increase in Namibia's visitor arrivals in February, reaching over 37 thousand, marking an 8.1% month-on-month surge and a significant 26.1% year-on-year rise. According to a tourism report by IJG Securities, February 2024 arrivals surpassed pre-pandemic levels from February 2019 by 15.5%.
