Jet Blue suspends Haiti flights after bullet hits plane

Jet Blue Airlines will suspend all flights to and from Haiti for at least three weeks after one of its planes was hit by gunfire. American and Spirit Airlines have also cancelled flights to the island nation which is facing a security crisis amid worsening gang violence and political unrest. Ira Spitzer reports.

Worrying UN report predicts increase in starvation across the world

A new United Nations report indicates catastrophic levels of acute food insecurity bordering on starvation in five countries around the world. The World Food Programme together with the Food and Agriculture Organization released its findings on Thursday, with Gaza, Sudan and Haiti topping the list of countries it predicts people will starve to death. UN Security Council extends mandate of the security mission to Haiti

The United Nations Security Council has approved the extension of the Multinational Security Support mission to Haiti by another year. Last year, the council authorized the Kenyan-led international security mission to assist the Caribbean country to help restore order against the ongoing gang violence. Kenya has pledged to send an additional 600 police officers to Haiti, bringing its total contingent to 1,000.
