Hurricane slams into US territory

A major tropical storm has knocked out power for nearly half of Puerto Rico's population, as Hurricane Ernesto barrels through the Caribbean. The US territory was pummelled with torrential rain and strong winds overnight, causing flooding and fears for the safety of the island's 3.2 million people, 40% of whom live under the poverty line. Hurricane Beryl closes in on Jamaica

Hurricane Beryl is closing in on the Caribbean Island of Jamaica where it's expected to bring life threatening winds and storm surge. Now downgraded to a category 4 hurricane it had been the earliest category 5 on record in the Atlantic - flattening Grenada's Carriacou Island and killing at least seven people.
