Twenty-one federal employees who had been working with the US's newly-named Department of Government of Efficiency - or DOGE - have resigned in protest.   US Vice President JD Vance cast the tie-breaking vote in the Senate to confirm Pete Hegseth as Donald Trump's Defense Secretary following a deadlocked Friday evening vote. LA fires: 0% contained in unprecedented disaster

  Fire officials in Los Angeles say they still have no part of the 27,000 acre wildfires under control. More than 2000 properties and buildings have been destroyed and around 180,000 people have been told to evacuate. The city's mayor says high winds and droughts have created the "perfect storm".   Wildfires are continuing to rage through the U.S city of Los Angeles, with tens of thousands of residents forced to evacuate.
